Our first development in Majorca, Gestilar Mediterrània, has been built for residents on the island who are planning to move or for anyone looking to purchase a second home by the sea. Can you imagine enjoying this setting all year round? Events, eating out... don’t miss the top 4 things to do in Palma in winter
An unmissable date on the Majorcan calendar for anyone who enjoys local festivals. Beginning at the end of the Christmas season, the celebration has outdoor parties, performances and shows, fireworks, concerts in the squares, street markets and food and drink stalls. With so much going on, the whole family will find something to enjoy. Huge bonfires (foguerons) are lit on the streets, where people cook meat and toast bread for the perfect accompaniment to sobrassada, a Majorcan spicy paté.
A key date is 20th January, when the Castell de Bellver and the diada ciclista take place, two major events that are prepared every year for the festival’s “big day”.
Without a doubt, one of the most popular things to do in Palma de Majorca in the winter months is to discover its culinary delights, for the island is considered a “paradise” for lovers of fine dining. Feeling hungry?
Majorca has 8 Michelin star restaurants, among which Zaranda, run by chef Fernando Pérez Arellano, has been a holder of this accolade since 2016.
Other recommended restaurants include Andreu Genestra, Marc Fosh and Es Racó d’es Teix, all of which have become firm favourites on the island. A further two new eating places, Adrián Quetglas in Palma and Argos in Port de Pollença, are also making a name for themselves. Both were awarded their first Michelin star in 2017 and held on to them 2018. Bon Appetit!
As we described in our post Living in Palma de Majorca, around the port of Portitxol, a former fishing district on the outskirts of Palma where our Gestilar Mediterrània development is being built, there are dozens of eating places where you can enjoy excellent food and leisure options. You can practice your favourite outdoor sport at the nearby sports facilities or enjoy the fresh air in the “Krekovic” and “Can Palou” parks.
Imagine the views you can take in as you walk along the promenade from Portitxol to the port of Majorca. They are not to be missed!
Why not take the opportunity to sample some of the local delicacies? Try the ‘llonguets’, freshly baked crunchy bread filled with whatever you fancy; sobrassada, ham, etc. Where? We recommend Es Vaixell, the ideal place to sample an authentic ‘llonguet’ while you admire the views of the Mediterranean.
Why not make most of the winter months and this quieter time to practice a sport such as golf or tennis? We invite you to discover the Palma de Majorca golf courses situated in some truly beautiful landscapes. If you prefer tennis, you can join the Guillermo Vilas Tennis Academy in Palmanova or the Majorca Tennis Academy in Magaluf, and take lessons from the top professionals!
Do you have any other recommendations for our readers on things to do in Palma de Majorca in the winter? We would love to hear them!
