How to decorate your home

Design-Icon Chairs: How to decorate your home and give it an exclusive touch (Part 2)

Are you ready to add an exclusive touch to your home? Today, in the 2nd part of our post on “design-icon chairs,” we offer the perfect guide on how to decorate your home with trend-setting pieces of furniture that are icons in the world of interior design.

This time, we are presenting two models that have provided the inspiration for our projects at Islas Estelas and Isla de Pedrosa.

Masters Chair, Philippe Starck and Eugeni Quitlle, Kartell 2009

They describe it as “an ingenious hybrid of forms” with the curves of 3 other symbolic chairs intermeshing on the back support: the “Series 7 Chair” by Arne Jacobsen, the “Eiffel Chair” by Charles Eames and “Tulip Armchair“ by Eero Saarinen. The distinctive feature of this model is the curvaceous interlinking of the three different silhouettes, which “fuse together” to create a solid, yet lightweight piece (produced by the gaps between the curves).

The chair’s strikingly contemporary style was recognised by the Chicago Athenaeum - Museum of Architecture and Design, which presented it with its prestigious “Good Design Award” in 2010.

Islas Estelas is also a special project in its design, with the outdoor terraces functioning as “moving elements ” thus creating interesting contrasts on the façade by producing a “tapestry” of gaps and solid sections.

Don’t you think this would look fantastic in a space with a kitchen that opens out into the living-room?

Series 7 Chair, Arne Jacobsen, Fritz Hansen, 1955

This is one of the iconic designer chairs par excellence. Even up until the present day, this is one of the most commercially successful ranges in the history of furniture.

Created by the Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen in 1955, it was conceived as the “natural evolution” of its predecessor, the "Ant Chair“ to which it bears a certain resemblance.

Made of pressure-moulded veneer, it is a clear example of the lamination technique, with four chromed steel legs, designed to make the chair stackable, quite an unusual feature at the time.

Isla de Pedrosa, now often referred to as the “new skyline of Valdebebas” has itself become an icon of the area and one of the stand-out developments in Europe, due to its design, quality and innovation. How do you think it looks in the development’s penthouse? Have we sparked some ideas on how to decorate your home?
